The more I think about it, the more I want a tented reception. I just don't know how to have a nice plated dinner in one of those big tents. I assume we'd have to get a caterer with one of those mobile cooking trucks or whathaveyou to cook everything in. I mean, it's just 40 people. Most tented receptions with dinners are up to 200. I'm pretty sure what I want is totally doable.
I wouldn't mind just having it at my memae's house, to be honest. I imagine having the ceremony right in front of the rock garden in what used to be the cow pasture (but is now a beautiful, level lawn). There's a tree that comes out of the rock garden, and I imagine that being all covered in white christmas lights. The garden could have lanterns sitting all over the rocks.
The reception tent could be set up right behind where everyone would sit for the reception: next to papa's workshop. I think there would be plenty of room. We'd save a ton of money since we wouldn't have to rent a space. We'd just need to organize and pay for the tents and caterers and decorations and all that.
I think this is worth looking in to.

i know i already commented this on your LJ, but seriously look into acadia national park! at least for the ceremony- that way you can have the coastal scenery for the ceremony, and then a beautiul reception at memaes, and be saving a buttload of money. aye!
